PHRYGIA. Abbaitis. 2nd century BC. AE (Orichalcum, 17 mm, 5.58 g, 12 h), Ankyra. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. MYΣΩΝ / ABBA Lion skin draped over club; to right, monogram; all within oak wreath. BMC 8. HGC 7, 750. SNG Copenhagen 5. Minor scuff on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.

The reverse legend on this issue refers to Mysian colonists, who were likely settled in the Abbaitis by Eumenes II. It has been suggested to link the 2nd century BC bronze coinage of the city to the revolt of Aristonikos (133-129 BC), who received strong support in this region.
